Collection: MOSCOW PAINT

I began to see particular details of the landscape- materials, surfaces, objects that made up the aesthetic of the city: benches, pipes, tiles, railings, windows, pavements. I noticed the colours used and old-fashioned details rubbing up against modern additions. Observing this interplay became the motivation for my walks away from the familiar streets of the centre. I took shorter walks in different neighbourhoods, and contented myself with smaller areas. I looked at the walls and came to love their ad hoc additions, their particular/peculiar palette, their brush strokes: accidental compositions. Paint strokes by people, presumably for a purpose. Paint applied carefully, and paint sloshed on slapdash to cover the cracks and erase graffiti. They became for me great canvases, flecked with detail that contained the atmosphere of the city.
